Edizione 2015
The first time of Pivk at the Dolomites, Kimmel sets the record
domenica 19 luglio 2015

The 18th edition of the Dolomites Skyrace had undoubtedly big figures. The most important are those of the American from Colorado Megan Kimmel of the Dynafit Team, able to win in 2 hours, 25 minutes and 57 seconds, just 180 seconds less than what Emelie Forsberg achieved in 2012. In the men's field, Tadei Pivk from Tarvisio in Friuli achieves his first career victory in Canazei closing in 2 hours, 2 minutes and 47 seconds. Some other numbers: 898 entries, 770 participants and 35 the nations represented, other three records. Second place for Ionut Zinca, who gets silver for the third time in four editions, a bitter achievement that only a victory will be able to wipe out one day.
Podium completed surprisingly by the Swiss Pascal Egli: last-minute entry and even bronze. In the women’s field behind Kimmel, the Spanish Laura Orgué Vila with a satisfied second place. She reached the finish line a little bit “battered”, followed by Elisa Desco from Piemonte that was able to keep behind Forsberg.
At the first time tracking, on the beginning of Forcella Pordoi, the Colombian Saul Padua Rodriguez, who had already secured the third place on Friday in the vertical race, and the Swiss Pascal Egli pass together. Third Aritz Egea Caceres while Tadei Pivk and Ionut Zinca follow behind a minute. On Piz Boe, at an altitude of 3,152, the uphill ends with this partial ranking: Padua Rodriguez begins the downhill with 17 seconds over Egli, a minute and 32 seconds on Zinca, one minute and 34 on Caceres and nearly two minutes on Pivk, followed by Sevennec, Merillas Moledo, Goni, Tavernaro and Gianola, tenth overall.
The long and spectacular run down Val Lasties decides, again, the overall. Here begins the real duel, Zinca and Pivk reach the Colombian and the Swiss, exploiting a mistake in their choice of route, but then Lonut slows down for a foot problem and Pivk takes advantage. Pivk (Team Crazy Idea) raises his arms to the sky in Piazza Marconi closing in 2 hours 02'47". Silver for the Rumanian Ionut Zinca (Valetudo) with 2 hours 03'18", bronze for a happy Pascal Egli (Salewa Mountain Shop). The Colombian Saul Padua Rodriguez (Team Crazy Idea) finishes fourth with 2h04'56". The eleventh, Michele Tavernaro (La Sportiva), is the first of Trentino.
The women race offered less pathos with the favorite Laura Orgue Vila (Team Salomon). For the first half the Spanish literally flew, setting a new record of the event in the uphill section, or until Piz Boè: 1 hour 29'30" her time, two seconds lower than what obtained Antonella Confortola in 2008. A minute and a half behind Megan Kimmel (Team Dynafit), nearly four minutes behind the Norwegian Eli Anne Dvergsdal, which in turn boasts half a minute over Elisa Desco and five and a half over Emelie Forsberg.
With the downhill, problems began for Orgué, because of foot blisters. The advantage built on Kimmel quickly evaporated in the warm sunshine of Val di Fassa and on the hard rocks of Val Lasties, also because the American put wings on his feet and rocketed towards Canazei, setting a new record. At the finish line, the runner of Colorado has inflicted a minute and one second to the Spanish. Bronze for Elisa Desco from Cuneo (Scott Sports), who was able to prevail over the Swedish Emelie Forsberg (Team Salomon): 2 hours 28 minutes and 36 seconds, the time of Desco, 2 hours 29 minutes and 11 seconds the one of the Scandinavian.
Important to note that the organizing committee donated one euro, for each official race t-shirt sold, to the victims of the earthquake that hit Nepal, in addition to the sum paid for the same cause by the winner Tadei Pivk, who donated the prize won. Everything has been given to the athlete Mira Rai.
